Minecraft: How to Get Spore Blossoms (& What It’s For)

Spore Blossoms are gorgeous flowers in Minecraft that make great nature decorations for ceiling blocks. To obtain one, players must find a Lush Cave.

Introduced during Part 2 of Minecraft‘s expansive “Caves and Cliffs” update, the Spore Blossom is a large pink flower that hangs from the ceiling of Lush Caves. The unique blossom emits small green particles from its golden center that either drift slowly towards the ground or float graciously about within a 22-block radius. Unfortunately, as exquisite as they are, the Spore Blossom within the current Minecraft update doesn’t feature any innate utility outside of being enchanting ceiling decor.

Like any typical flower in Minecraft, Spore Blossoms can be harvested by hitting with a tool or one’s bare hands. Spore Blossoms sadly aren’t renewable, meaning they can’t be farmed elsewhere and only spawn once within their Lush Cave biomes. Players who wish to have a large collection of the blossoms will need to venture into multiple cave systems searching for them. Additionally, Spore Blossoms can only be placed on the bottom side of a solid Minecraft block, including Slabs or the underside of a Stair block. As leaves aren’t considered solid, Spore Blossoms cannot be placed beneath them. However, replacing a Leaf Block with a similar-looking Moss Block will allow a blossom to adhere beneath.

To encounter Spore Blossoms, players must first locate a Lush Cave biome in Minecraft. Lush Caves only spawn beneath the surface of the Overworld but are able to generate at various elevations. In other words, players need to be wary when digging straight down in search of a cave system. There are two ways to find a Lush Cave in Minecraft. The first and most effective way is by looking for Azalea Trees.

Where to Find Spore Blossoms in Minecraft

Azalea Trees are a rare tree type in Minecraft that typically generates directly above a Lush Cave, making them a helpful indication of where a cave can be found. Azaleas can be recognized by their yellowish-green leaves dotted with tiny pink flowers. Hunting for Azalea Trees within a dense forest might be challenging. Thus, a choice method for easily spotting one would be to climb up to a high point and use a Minecraft Spyglass or Optifine zoom to scan the area. After finding a tree, dig through the Rooted Blocks beneath it to find a Lush Cave and the Spore Blossoms within.

An alternate yet less reliable way to find a Lush Cave is by looking down into caverns from a ravine or searching within existing underground mines for glowing blocks in the distance. This glow might be Lichen or Lava, but there’s a good chance it will be the Glow Berries that thrive within Lush Caves.
